What cookies are
Cookies are small text files saved by your browser when you visit a website. Some are strictly necessary for the site to work; others are optional and only set if you give consent.
The three categories we use
Our consent banner groups cookies into three buckets. You can accept or reject each one independently using in the footer.
- Essential. Always on. Required for the site to work — for example, remembering your cookie preferences so we don't ask you again on every page load.
- Analytics. Optional. Lets us measure which content helps readers using Google Analytics 4. Off by default.
- Marketing. Optional. Lets us measure and improve our Instagram and Facebook ads using Meta Pixel. Off by default.
Specific cookies we set
| Cookie | Category | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| dexondev-consent-v1 | Essential | Stores your cookie preferences so we don't re-prompt on every page. | 1 year (localStorage) |
| _ga | Analytics | Google Analytics 4 — distinguishes unique visitors. | 2 years |
| _ga_<id> | Analytics | Google Analytics 4 — persists session state for this property. | 2 years |
| _fbp | Marketing | Meta Pixel — identifies browsers for ad measurement and retargeting. | 90 days |
| _fbc | Marketing | Meta Pixel — stores last visit's click ID from a Facebook ad. | 90 days |
Cookies in the Analytics and Marketing categories are only set after you grant consent. If you reject or revoke consent, the corresponding cookies are cleared on your next interaction with the page.
How to control cookies
- Use in the footer to change your preferences at any time.
- Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Doing so won't break the site but may reset your preferences.
- For Google Analytics opt-out across all sites, install Google's opt-out browser add-on.
